Tracking Time Trends with Google Analytics
Do you want to know what time of day your site is receiving the most traffic?
Google Analytics can provide that information for you. If you already have a Google Analytics account set up and your site is already loaded, just follow the steps below!
Click on the screen shots to make them bigger
1. Go to your Dashboard for the site you want to view stats for. I have chosen my Etsy shop.
Find the Visitors tab pointed out by the BIG RED arrow below!
2. After clicking on the Visitors tab, look below for the Visitor Trending tab.
This will bring up the Visitors graph and some different graph options.
3. Next find and click the Visits option.
4. Next slide over to the right hand side of your page…You will notice a nifty little clock.
Click it and your graph will change to the time trends!

5. Below your time trend graph, you will see a bar graph. This shows you exactly
what time you are getting the most traffic to your site.

Let’s apply this amazing information to our Etsy shops. As you can see in the bar graph above, I get almost double the amount of traffic to my Etsy shop at 1 pm and 11pm. If you look at the lunch hour 11am-1pm.. that is a great chunk of my traffic. So with this information I can tell when I should be renewing items. During these times I should also be promoting off Etsy. Take a look at my Increasing your Etsy shop traffic articles…In these articles, I spell out how to promote your Etsy shop in many different ways…some free and some not.

Maybe this is my missing link to dead sales!!
Your time zone should be correct.. when you sign up you enter your time zone!
Thanks for sharing this useful tip! is the google time EST? I’m on the west coast and I’m wondering if 1pm on the google graph is my time or Etsy time (EST).
Thanks!
Hi Tim!
quick question: What is the “Bounce Rate”? Just curious…
If you applied the filter.. they should be excluded…. Try an experiment…… Click on your etsy shop a ton during a 10 min time span.. check it out the next day…

Yes, great information, but as someone asked, how can I tell this is not recording MY visits, even though I added a filter. I don’t think I could have so many visits from my town. But maybe, I certainly hope so!
There sure will be!!!!
This is exactly the type of information I have been looking for. Will there be more to come as far as explantions on different aspects of how to optimize web anylitics?
THanks, Sarah

I didn’t even see there was a time option. Thanks so much for pointing it out!
I have another question:
How many of these views are actually ME? I go in so much and look at my own site and page a lot. so are a lot of these views me?
THANK YOU!
One question:
How much do you think renewing affects time people look? For example, if I renew/list new items at 10am and 5pm, won’t I be at the top of the timeline and get more looks at those times? Or do you think it’s that more people are on etsy during those times? This is great by the way, I’m just curious… have you tried listing at a very low view time, and it has gone up? Thanks so much!
Thanks for sharing this info!
No problem!!! I love having stats!!!
Thanks, I had been trying to figure out this time thing for a week now. Keep up the great tutorials
I use this and it really shows some amazing information about my etsy shop, my blog (dvinedesigns.blogspot.com) and my ebay site too!
